Lighthouse Park

Beautiful hiking trails through the forest with views of the water, distant Vancouver Island and, of course, the lighthouse. We picked lots of huckleberries and salmonberries as we made our way along the Shore Pine trail to the lighthouse view.

Gumbalimba Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife park for rescued macaws and monkeys, but also lots of native wildlife in the park like iguanas and birds

Porteau Cove Provincial Park

One of the most beautiful places we have ever been. We loved this beach along the sea to sky road to Squamish. Turquoise water and glacial mountain views. Great place for swimming in the summer months. Large parking lot, bathrooms and picnic tables.

Mer de Glacé and Montenvers Cog Railway

Ride a historic cog railway to the toe of the Mer de Glacé, France’s longest glacier, a literal “sea of ice”. View the glacier from above, then ride a cable car and walk some stairs down to an ice cave carved into the side of the glacier. Walk a path inside the glacier, you can touch the ancient ice and learn about it through informative displays. There are also more informative displays about the glacier and Mont Blanc inside the cable car station.

Paestum

Paestum was the site of a major Greek city and later Roman city. It is also home to three Ancient Greek temples (some of the oldest and best preserved in the world). Walk around the temples and through the excavated part of the city to learn about how the ancient Greeks and Romans lived. There is also a museum with artifacts and terracotta paintings found in the area.
